ZEROH INFO

Daniel Hardiker (b. 1974) and Neil Hetherington (b. 1972) work collaboratively as ZEROH, a UK-based artist duo known for their dynamic practice across installation, digital, and conceptual art. Their multidisciplinary approach includes interactive digital works, sculpture, kite making, and placemaking, often anchored in themes of heritage, climate, and community storytelling.

ZEROH’s digital work stands out for its immersive and participatory qualities. They create responsive environments, audiovisual installations, and interactive projections that invite viewers to become part of the artwork. Their pieces frequently blur the boundaries between physical and virtual space—merging code, motion, sound, and sculpture to generate multisensory experiences. This innovative use of technology enables ZEROH to explore alternative forms of engagement and social interaction, particularly within public and communal settings.

Since launching their collaborative practice, ZEROH has worked on a project-by-project basis, often engaging musicians and cultural spaces to push the boundaries of interdisciplinary creation. In 2004, they curated the V&A Friday Late event with NOKI, blending music, performance, and protest art. In 2021, they began a long-term creative partnership with folk band Stick in the Wheel, producing six music videos and contributing to immersive live shows with visual scenography and digital interventions.

A defining aspect of their recent work is large-scale public engagement. Commissioned by Hastings Borough Council in 2023, ZEROH led a two-year transformation of Bottle Alley, an underused 1930s art deco promenade. The project featured a 110-meter-long community-maintained artwork, a choreographed lightshow synced to music, all realized with over 350 volunteers. That same year, they co-founded the Bottle Alley Art Market with events producer Gina Hewitt—a vibrant, inclusive 500-meter-long platform for artists, now a landmark event in Hastings’ cultural calendar.
